For its extracts, MycoMedica states a guaranteed minimum content of characteristic substances and has the mushrooms tested in laboratories in the USA, Ireland, Germany and at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague for more than 350 undesirable substances, including heavy metals and pesticides; production follows HACCP. Extract lines: classic, 50 % and PRO
Most mushrooms are sold in three lines of 90 plant capsules with 500 mg of extract. Classic extracts contain at least 30 % polysaccharides, the 50 % versions at least 50 % polysaccharides, and the PRO line is based on organic extracts standardised for substances typical of each mushroom. Examples are Cordyceps PRO with cordycepin and adenosine, or Reishi PRO with at least 30 % beta-1,3/1,6-glucans from the fruiting body.
Mushroom and herb blends
MycoMedica also makes formulas that combine mushrooms with herbs from traditional Chinese practice. A popular one is MycoHair with He Shou Wu and Reishi extracts; more blends are in the mushroom and herb blends category and in the MyTao edition.
Powders, dried mushrooms and honeys
If you prefer not to take capsules, choose organic mushroom powders to stir into water or porridge, whole dried mushrooms for decoctions and cooking, or mushroom honeys – Czech blossom honey with mushroom extract and acerola.
Coriolus as a veterinary product
Under EU rules, Coriolus cannot be sold as a food supplement for humans, so MycoMedica offers it as a veterinary product for dogs and cats. For example, Coriolus 90 capsules with dosing by the animal’s weight is in the Coriolus category.
How to choose
If you are new to mushrooms, compare the individual species in the Reishi, Cordyceps, Hericium and Chaga categories. For capsules, the manufacturer usually recommends a pattern of 5 days of use and 2 days off; the exact daily intake is always on the label. Food supplements do not replace a varied diet.
