The health benefits of herbs can be used very effectively in the form of teas and decoctions. In most cases, the active substances are water-soluble and are released from the plant material into the aqueous solution after a shorter or longer boiling time.

This way of using herbs is traditional and highly effective. The medicinal substances pass into the body much more easily, and when the tea is sipped in small doses throughout the day, the effect is more intense than when the same dose is taken all at once. Water is a very powerful information medium, and during boiling, herbal bioinformation passes into it along with the active substances.

Effects and active compounds

Lapacho has immunostimulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and pain-relieving effects. The bark contains naphthoquinones and anthraquinones—substances that rarely occur together in a single plant. Their synergistic action is therefore considered responsible for the plant’s exceptional medicinal effects. The most important naphthoquinone is lapachol. The plant also contains flavonoids, which have antioxidant effects; vitamins (B, C, and provitamin A); minerals (calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium); and trace elements (silicon, tin, and manganese).

Preparation method

Add 4 heaped teaspoons of lapacho to 1 liter of boiling water and boil for 5 minutes. Then remove from heat and let steep for another 15–20 minutes. It can be drunk hot or cold. Drink 1 liter of the decoction throughout the day, preferably between meals. After 2–3 weeks of use, take a break of at least 1 month.

In the tropical rainforests of Central America grows a tall tree with smooth bark and tubular flowers, whose effects have been known to local Indigenous tribes for centuries. The Indigenous people call it by a word that can be translated as “to have power and strength.” The modern history of lapacho dates back to 1884, when its most important active compound was isolated, after which its effects were tested in various forms of cancer. The success was so striking that the Brazilian government imposed an information embargo on the results of all clinical research concerning lapacho. This embargo was not broken until 1981, and since then interest in this plant has risen sharply around the world.

Contraindications

Not intended for children under 3 years of age. Consult your doctor about use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not recommended for low blood pressure, heart failure, diarrheal illnesses, or febrile illnesses.

Warning!

The herbs are packaged in a zippered aluminum-foil pouch. This protects them from oxidation and loss of potency. After opening, therefore, store them in the original packaging. These are highly medicinal herbs—essentially natural panaceas—with a very strong effect. Therefore, care must be taken with how they are used, and contraindications must not be underestimated. Long-term use of these teas is possible only in cases of health problems. For prevention, use them only for a short time.
