Reishi and Cordyceps: traditional vital mushrooms and research interest

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) and Cordyceps are among the best-known traditional “vital” mushrooms. They appear in historical Asian practice and in modern food-supplement ranges such as MycoMedica.

Extracts are often standardised for polysaccharides or other marker compounds. Research papers discuss biological activity in experimental settings — that is not the same as an authorised health claim for consumers in the EU.

Mushroom food supplements must not claim to treat, prevent or cure disease. Use products as directed on the label.
